Merry Christmas and Thank You

Another amazing year spent with some of the most incredible people. It was a year filled with so many emotions that I couldn’t even begin to describe. Through it all though, it was a year packed with beautiful connections, laughter, and love. I feel so fortunate to have had the privilege to work with some extraordinary clients this year.

So, this is my toast and thanks to all those who have graciously entered my life this year and made it that much better. Thank you to all my amazing clients, without you it would not be possible for me to continue doing what I love most. Thank you for including me in your lives, your families, and your journey.

It has been an honor and privilege being your friend and photographer. Thank you for allowing me to capture so much of who you are. I’ll always remember your laughs, your hugs, high fives, and yes – low fives too. I am so grateful for each and every one of you. Much love and appreciation to you all. Cheers to a great 2012.

Scarlett // One Month

It’s so cliche but time really does go by so quickly these days. My little niece, Scarlett, is already one month old. Here she is at her first “official” model shoot. Just as precious as the day she was born.

Seeing things closer

These were captured with the Lensbaby Composer. Still experimenting with the aperture plates to get the look but the macro kit is super cool. I’ve been familiar with the Lensbaby product line for a few years now but have never really used it because of the lack of control. Now with the Composer, it’s quite nice to have the flexibility of switching optics, adding accessories, and controlling the aperture to achieve a variety of looks. What do you think of the Lensbaby look?

Purity of film

Film is still arguably one of the best medium still alive today. I still use it quite a bit in my personal work and certain client projects. I’m still astonished by the purity of each photograph that’s produced. Here’s a few shot on a Contax 645 and Nikon F100 using Fuji Pro 400H. There is something very distinctive about the look that I just absolutely love. I can’t imagine my photography career without it.

I often don’t ever leave home without my camera because it’s scenes like these I’ll always want to remember. Taking time to stop, observe, and reflect is important; not only in the moment but also in the life we live so intensely. I think Mother Teresa said it best when she wrote, “See how nature – trees, flowers, grass – grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence. We need silence to be able to touch souls.”

It’s a Black & White snow

It’s been awhile since I’ve updated this blog with images of the boys. They’ve grown way too fast. Everyday they surprise me with something new whether it’s their personality or the little things they say and do.

The snow has been relentless making it impossible to go anywhere. It seems like every time we turn on the news school is cancelled again. The kids love to be outside and this was getting to be a challenge. So, for a little activity we decided to have them help clean the snow off the cars. I can’t tell you how excited they were to pitch in. One thing that I love about all children is that they will find joy in any situation.

Since I haven’t photographed them in awhile I thought I would try something new. I used to love shooting black & white film and seeing the results develop before my eyes in the darkroom. Now with digital, I’ve gotten accustomed to shooting everything in color then converting it later because I’ve always thought that shooting in the black & white mode in-camera would produce muddy looking images. So, with the kids in “play” mode I was set to test this theory. I have to say, I’m quite impressed with the results after changing various settings in the camera. Have a look …
